A Preferred Destination for International Students

Over the years, Mainamoti Medical College has attracted a growing number of international students, especially from India. The affordable tuition fees, low cost of living, cultural similarities, and high-quality education make MMCH a compelling choice for MBBS aspirants.

Why International Students Prefer MMCH:

  • MCI/NMC screening test (FMGE) coaching support

  • Separate hostel facilities for foreign students

  • Safe and hygienic campus environment

  • Indian food availability in the college canteen

  • Helpful administrative staff to support visa, travel, and registration processes backed by Smile Education

Mainamoti Medical College and Hospital, Bangladesh, Is a Top Choice for Medical Education

Tucked away in Comilla, Bangladesh, Mainamoti Medical College and Hospital has quietly built a name for itself as a solid private medical college. The med school is known for delivering quality education and patient-focused care—two things that draw in both Bangladeshi and international students who want to make their mark in medicine.

Mainamoti Medical College Where It’s Located

Mainamoti Medical College sits in Baropara, a bustling part of Comilla, southeastern Bangladesh. The college’s name nods to the ancient Buddhist archaeological site of Mainamati, a reminder of the area’s deep cultural roots. It’s also not far from Dhaka, the country’s capital, which makes it pretty easy to get to for students and families.
The college was founded to address the need for more skilled doctors, both in Bangladesh and abroad. By pairing rigorous academics with hands-on experience at its teaching hospital, Mainamoti aims to turn out competent, compassionate physicians.

Hospital and Clinical Training

The college’s on-site hospital has more than 500 beds, giving students a serious chance to get their hands dirty (sometimes literally) with real-life patient care. Every major specialty is covered, from General Medicine and Surgery to Pediatrics, Cardiology, Neurology, and Emergency Medicine.
Students take part in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, diagnostics, and surgeries, all under the watchful eyes of experienced consultants. This setup ensures that theory meets practice, and students gain the clinical skills they’ll need once they’re out in the world as doctors.

Mainamoti Medical College Campus Life and Facilities

Mainamoti Medical College boasts a modern campus tailored to the needs of medical students. There are large lecture halls, classrooms with multimedia setups, dissection rooms, well-equipped science labs, and a central library loaded with up-to-date textbooks, journals, and online resources.
Both male and female students have access to separate hostel accommodations. International students get their own secure, comfortable hostels, making it easier to focus on studies. The canteen caters to different palates, including vegetarian and international food options.
Other perks include computer labs, campus-wide Wi-Fi, reliable transportation, and on-site medical care. The college also encourages students to join in extracurriculars—think seminars, debates, and cultural events—so they graduate as well-rounded individuals, not just book-smart doctors.

Mainamoti Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) Affiliation and Approvals

Students enroll in a five-year MBBS program that’s been approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) and is affiliated with the University of Chittagong. After finishing their courses, students complete a mandatory one-year internship, where they put their classroom knowledge to work in real clinical settings.
The curriculum covers all the bases, from the basic sciences—like Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry—to essential clinical fields such as Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, and Psychiatry. Classes are taught in English, which is a big plus for international students. The faculty includes seasoned doctors, professors, and specialists who genuinely care about student growth.

The academic affiliation of Chittagong (Chattagram) Medical University is recognized by major medical regulatory bodies, including:

  • Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC)
  • World Health Organization (WHO)
  • National Medical Commission (NMC) of India [earlier Medical Council of India MCI]

Accreditation

Mainamoti Medical College and Hospital is approved by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council. It’s also listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS), so graduates are eligible to pursue medical licenses and further study in many countries worldwide.

Opportunities for International Students

Students from India, Nepal, and several African countries have found Mainamoti Medical College to be a welcoming and affordable place to study medicine. The MBBS program keeps tuition costs reasonable, and living expenses in Comilla are low compared to most other destinations, making it a practical choice for anyone chasing a quality education abroad.

A History Built on Diabetes Care

DAMC’s story begins with Dr. Mohammad Zahed and his team, who set up the Faridpur Diabetic Association (FDA) in 1983. Seeing the rising challenge of diabetes in Bangladesh, the FDA linked up with the national Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS) by 1985, creating a strong platform for diabetes treatment and awareness.

This early work paved the way for the creation of DAMC in 2009. It became the country’s second medical college affiliated with the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), marking a big step forward not just for Faridpur but for diabetes-focused healthcare across South Asia.

Campus and Affiliations

Located in a calm, easy-to-reach part of downtown Faridpur at Masjid Bari Sarok, the DAMC campus covers about 2.21 acres. At its heart is the DAMC Hospital, a 500-bed tertiary care center running since 1985, treating thousands of patients every month.

DAMC’s academic ties are strong. It’s affiliated with the University of Dhaka—Bangladesh’s oldest and most respected university—and recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. It’s also listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, which helps graduates pursue medical careers internationally.

Academic Program

The college offers a 5-year MBBS degree followed by a compulsory 1-year internship. The curriculum, crafted by the University of Dhaka and BMDC, meets both national and international standards.

Students get thorough classroom instruction alongside hands-on clinical training from experienced doctors. Many graduates go on to qualify for the USMLE in the USA and meet licensing requirements in Canada and other countries, proving DAMC’s global reach.

Facilities That Support Learning

DAMC prides itself on a modern, welcoming learning environment:

The lecture halls are air-conditioned and fitted with the latest audiovisual tech to make classes engaging.

There are 13 labs—9 for pre-clinical and 4 for clinical studies—covering subjects such as biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, and microbiology, where students apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.

The digital library provides fast internet access, as well as access to HINARI resources, scientific journals, e-books, and more.

Several museums focused on Anatomy, Pathology, Forensic Medicine, and Community Medicine enrich the learning experience.

Separate hostels for men and women come with 24/7 water and power, Wi-Fi, and recreational spaces. The canteen serves clean, nutritious meals at budget-friendly prices.

Hands-On Clinical Training at DAMC Hospital

The attached DAMC Hospital is a busy tertiary care facility, with over 3,000 outpatients daily and a 75% bed occupancy rate. This means students encounter a wide range of clinical cases, giving them real-world experience.

The hospital also emphasizes social responsibility—about 30% of patients get free treatment, reflecting the college’s commitment to accessible healthcare.

Key departments include:

The Cardiology Unit, with 80 beds and a Coronary Care Unit, is upgrading to include a catheterization lab for advanced heart care.

The Nephrology and Dialysis Ward serves many patients free of charge, with 23 dialysis machines funded by NGOs and partners, addressing the growing kidney disease issue in Bangladesh.

These experiences help students develop not only medical skills but also empathy and leadership needed for community health.

Global Recognition and Career Opportunities

DAMC graduates enjoy wide recognition:

They can sit for the USMLE and pursue medical residencies in the USA.

The program meets standards for Canadian medical licensing.

Indian students can take the FMGE/NExT exam to practice in India.

Being listed in the WHO directory enhances worldwide acceptance.

This broad recognition opens doors to careers in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Student Life Beyond Classes

Life at DAMC isn’t just about studying. The college encourages a balanced experience:

Students lead diabetes awareness drives and community outreach, building social responsibility.

Annual sports events feature cricket, football, badminton, and basketball, promoting fitness and teamwork.

Cultural festivals and talent shows let students showcase creativity and celebrate diversity.

Clubs for music, debate, photography, and volunteering offer ways to connect and grow outside the classroom.

Admission and Fees (2025–26)

Admission is merit-based and managed by Bangladesh’s Directorate General of Medical Education.

Requirements include completing HSC or equivalent in science, NEET qualification for Indian applicants, and at least 60% marks in Biology.

The total tuition fee runs about BDT 1.8 million (around USD 18,000) for the full course, payable yearly or by semester.

Monthly tuition is roughly BDT 10,000, with hostel fees about BDT 3,000 per month, including utilities.

Compared to many private medical colleges worldwide, DAMC offers affordable education without skimping on quality.
